How Does Acupuncture Work?
Acupuncture is a holistic system based upon 12 primary channels and 8 extraordinary vessels in the body, in which Qi (vital-energy) circulates. When the balance within the body is disrupted, the flow of Qi can become blocked leading to pain, discomfort and illness. Acupuncture needles are used at specific points to stimulate the Qi along the channels in order to harmonize the body and bring balance (health) where there was once imbalance (illness / pain).
In my practice, I integrate several styles of acupuncture. One system I regularly use, is Dong style acupuncture. Master Dong was one of the most renowned acupuncturists to ever practice. Between 1953-1975 he is credited with treating over 40,000 patients, often healing patients in a single treatment. His system is famous for using a unique system where points are selected far from the site of injury. For example, if one has pain in their right knee, then acupuncture points would be selected on their left elbow.
