How to Use Spices to Boost Your Metabolism

January 11, 2018

For most people, losing weight is a long and hard journey. Finding the time to exercise is a challenge (walking is a great activity), as is eating the healthiest foods available. While many want instant and drastic results, the process should be slow and steady. One small step to lead you to weight loss is to increase your metabolism through spices.

According to Fitday, “Capsaicin is the source from which hot peppers get their heat. It is found in jalapenos, habaneros, cayenne, and most other chili peppers as a colorless compound. Along with its slimming effects, capsaicin is shown to work as a blood thinner, helping to prevent blood clots.”

If you’re looking to add some heat to your meals, learn more about these 5 spices, many of which may already be in your cabinet, for healthy weight loss as recommended by Eat This.

Losing Weight with 5 Spices

1. Ginger

Add fresh ginger to your diet to aid in digestion. This flowering plant can help with gastrointestinal problems and gastric emptying.

2. Black Pepper

One of those spices nearly everyone already has, black pepper contains the powerful compound called, “Piperine.” This composite is instrumental in preventing the formation of fat cells. Grind this seasoning on salads, meats or anything else you eat for a reduction in body fat.

3. Cinnamon

This spice contains a powerful antioxidant called polyphenols that has been known to curb cravings, control appetites and stabilize blood sugar levels. Sprinkle it in oatmeal or smoothies for a leaner waist.

4. Cayenne

This fiery and red spice can leave you feeling the heat and eating healthier. People who consume hot foods tend to eat fewer calories than those who do not. Add a pinch or so on meats or eggs to get the kick you want.

5. Mustard Seed

Adding a teaspoon of mustard seeds to your diet can increase your metabolism for hours after eating. If you plan on increasing your mustard intake, make sure it is naturally low in calories and not a dip or dressing.

Losing weight can be a challenge, but with dedication and the above 5 spices, it can be done. Adding these spices to your meals can give you a metabolism boost which can aid in weight loss and overall health.
