Are you heart healthy? I’ve offered tips recently on how to get more sleep and why it’s important to find time for yourself, and today I’m here to offer tips to improve your heart health. After all, a strong heart is critical to a healthy life.
3 Tips for Heart Health
Anti-Inflammatory Diet: Though small amounts of irritation are just a part of being human, prolonged and continuous inflammation can cause serious health problems, including cancer, arthritis and heart disease. With the proper nutritional guidelines these ailments’ symptoms can be reduced or even prevented. By eliminating processed, sugary meals and foods with additives you cut out agents known to aggravate inflammation.
So, what should you eat? A diet rich in omega-3 fatty acids, dark greens and whole grains will help improve your heart health.
Acupuncture: Studies are finding that weekly acupuncture sessions are helping reduce hypertension. Specific points near the elbow and knee, “Release neurotransmitters that travel to areas of the brain that regulate the cardiovascular system,” according to John Longhurst, MD, PhD at Susan Samueli Center for Integrative Medicine at the University of California, Irvine. Paired with medication, these treatments can help reduce and prevent the risk for heart disease and heart attack.
Exercise: Nothing bad can really be said about exercising and how important it is for your overall health. But don’t think you need to spend an hour at the gym to get heart healthy. If strenuous exercise doesn’t sound like a doable option for you, go on a light walk for just 30 minutes a day to reduce your risk of heart disease.
Incorporating these three tips daily or weekly are important steps to living a healthy life. Are you interested in acupuncture for heart health? Schedule an appointment today to learn more.
